Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is having a tough time of things with the French international team.
France took on Serbia in an international friendly yesterday evening, eventually winning the affair 2-1. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for ‘Les Bleus’ as Arsenal forward Oliver Giroud had to endure a pretty torrid reception from the attending French supporters.
Giroud was presented with three decent chances during the match, only to squander the hat-trick of opportunities. Subbed off midway through the second half, The Gunners number one forward left the pitch to a chorus of boos.
Giroud now has just one goal in seven games for club and country this season and speaking after the game he admitted that, although he is unconcerned by the jeering fans, he will have to be more clinical going forward.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Giroud had the following to say.
“As a striker, what you get used to on a daily basis, it is to be applauded when you score goals. When the opposite happens, it’s difficult. Everybody gets criticised one day.
“That’s not the first and surely not the last time it happens. I have the mental strength to bounce back. Now I am going to focus on working. I am everything but worried about that. I will bounce back.
“I miss some efficiency. It is like it is. I cannot focus too much on it. I have to think about the victory of the team and the good form we currently are experiencing. We did well against Portugal and it is great to confirm with a second victory for the confidence.
“Everything was not perfect but we played well especially during the first half. I am going first to enjoy our victory and then obviously I will have to correct a few things.”
Strong words from the Frenchman but it will be interesting to see if he can follow them up with some goals when the Premier League resumes next weekend.
