The tweet that Gary Lineker sent out shortly after Sergi Roberto scored Barcelona’s sixth goal in the 95th minute of an utterly ludicrous game at Camp Nou tonight, to send Paris Saint-Germain crashing out of the Champions League, suggested that he may have been a tad excited.
Just a tad.
Unbe-fucking-lievable! Greatest game ever.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 8, 2017
But he wasn’t the only former England international to lose his cool in the BT Sport studio as Roberto stretched out to steer a deft cross from Neymar into the PSG net and cap off what is being heralded as the greatest comeback of all time.
After the game, his colleague Rio Ferdinand posted a video to Facebook which shows that Lineker, Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and himself were reduced to giddy infants by the absurd drama that unfolded tonight in the beating heart of Catalonia.
You can watch the video below…
PSG had taken a 4-0 lead from the first leg to Camp Nou this evening, but Barca ran out 6-1 winners in front of their raucous faithful to take the tie 6-5 on aggregate. Without the last gasp Roberto goal, the tie would have finished 5-5, but Barcelona would have been eliminated due to the away goals rule.
