Liverpool took on Chelsea tonight in the Premier League in what was a must win match for the Merseyside club and a chance for Antonio Conte’s side to put real distance between themselves and the rest in the race for the title.
In a finely balance clash at 1-1 in Anfield on Tuesday, the stadium went quiet as Chelsea’s Diego Costa went down under challenge in the Liverpool box as the clock ticked towards 80 minutes.
The decision; penalty. Up steps the Costa but in a twist that only the Premier League script writers could come up with, Simon Mignolet saves the spot kick.

Liverpool, currently attempting to hold on to the coat tails of the resurgent Chelsea, needed nothing but three points against the league leaders but coming away with a point on Tuesday will seem more like two points lost to Chelsea than a point gained by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Ultimately, Mignolet takes all the plaudits. It was his save that keeps the Premier League title race alive. With Arsenal losing to Watford at home, the race is still well and truly on.
Tottenham, Manchester United and their rivals City, will be watching with interest, now fully in the belief that anything can happen in the second half of the season.
