The word legend has been cheapened in footballing circles of late, but it is a fitting description for Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Having began his playing career in 1995 with Parma, the Italian has picked up a host of individual and team honours down through the years but there is one which has evaded the famed shot stopper – the Champions League.
Finalist in 2003 and 2015 with the Old Lady he has come close already, but there is a sense this year will be his final chance.
Whatever happens the 39-year-old can look back on a career in which he’s won, amongst some major domestic honours, a World Cup title with his country. But what better way to conclude this stunning career than to win the Champions League in what could well be his last match for the Turin giants.
On the pitch on Tuesday night there were also inklings that the curtain could be coming down soon with Buffon staying on the pitch longer than everyone else to savour making it to another European Cup final.
The moment in question, which can be seen below, was captured by football journalist Rik Sharma inside the Turin venue.
