Ireland had goalkeeper Darren Randolph to thank for keeping the score level in the early stages against Denmark.
Martin O’Neill’s side started the World Cup play-off in Copenhagen on the back foot, and Denmark very nearly made their possession count with just over ten minutes on the clock.
Jens Larsen struck the initial shot, catching it on the volley that Randolph was able to parry it way. However, it fell invitingly to striker Andreas Cornelius, who looked like he was about to give the home side an early advantage.
