Arsene Wenger’s latest comments won’t go down too well with Arsenal fans…
With Manchester United, Manchester City and various other Premier League sides churning signings through the door, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that there are ‘no top, top players’ available in the market.
With consistent reports linking the Gunners with moves for Shkrodan Mustafi, Alexandre Lacazette and Riyad Mahrez, Wenger has seemingly suggested that their are no options available for the Gunners.
In truth, countless top players have already moved clubs this summer and there are plenty more available should Wenger be willing to pay for them.
Riyad Mahrez for example is reportedly available for a fee in the region of £50m. In a market where John Stones, David Luiz and Raheem Sterling have recently moved clubs for similar fees, that actually sounds reasonable in the context of the PFA Player of the Year.
However, as has frequently been the case, Wenger seems completely unwilling to fork out a large sum of money if there is even the slightest suggestion that he is paying over the odds.
‘Big clubs only want these top, top level players and there are none available. The managers are there, the money is there, but the players are not there.’
