Romelu Lukaku bagged the first goal of his Manchester United career in the early hours of Tuesday morning in his new side’s win over Real Salt Lake.
The Belgian latched on to a brilliant Henrikh Mkhitaryan pass and rounded the goalkeeper to score what turned out to be the winning goal for the visitors. In both last night’s and Saturday’s friendly against LA Galaxy, Lukaku has, in the main, impressed fans with his prodigiously powerful play.
However, evidently, not everyone is a fan. NESN, a sports broadcaster in the US, discussed the 24-year-old’s move on their weekly football show and their pundit Marcus O’Mard claimed United will end up regretting spending so much money on them.
According to O’Mard, Lukaku is a “£15 million pound striker” and will spend double that in the next two years in order to replace him.
The most ridiculous part of his analysis, however, is that he can’t see the forward scoring “30 or 35 goals” for the Reds. For a start, over the past four seasons, the Antwerp native has scored 16, 20, 25 and 26 goals. It would be a massive surprise if the progression didn’t continue and he hit the 30-mark.
Furthermore, with the quality of player he now has supplying him, he’s surely almost certain to hit that target in a red shirt.
