Watch: Robbie Keane Opens Indian Super League Account With Beautiful Finish In Kolkata

Robbie Keane opened his Indian Super League account with a beautiful strike in Kolkata on Saturday and earned his side, Atletico de Kolkata, all three points against struggling visitors the Delhi Dynamos.

The Republic of Ireland’s record international goal-scorer, who missed the first three games of the season through injury, made his ISL debut earlier this month, coming on as a substitute with a little under half an hour to go against Chennaiyin FC in Chennai, but was unable to save ATK from a 3-2 defeat.

Keane subsequently featured in ATK’s 1-0 away win over Mumbai City and was voted ‘Player of the Match’ by fans.

The Dubliner, however, saved his first ISL goal for his home debut.

In the 78th minute, with the game locked at 0-0, the 37-year-old Keane showed wonderful control, taking the ball down with his chest inside the box, before turning his man and rifling a shot into the bottom corner.

The goal sent the home crowd into raptures.

ATK, who are managed by Keane’s former Spurs teammate Teddy Sheringham, clung to the one-goal lead to record their first home win of the season. The victory moves them to 7th in the ISL with 8 points, while Delhi are rooted to the foot of the table with just three points in six games.
