With one goalkeeper coming in at Liverpool on Thursday, another loos set to be on his way out.

While Alisson Becker is seemingly hours away from completing a £67m transfer from Roma, the club are reportedly in talks to sell Danny Ward. The 25-year-old had been due to start in Liverpool’s friendly match against Blackburn Rovers on Thursday night, but has since been withdrawn as talks between the two clubs progress.

Indeed, reports have now suggested that a fee has been agreed to sell the Welsh international to Leicester City.

According to Sky Sports, the fee will be somewhere in the region of £10m.

Prior to the sudden surge in interest in Alisson, it had been reported that Klopp was considering giving Ward a shot as Liverpool’s number one, such was the manager’s dissatisfaction with current options Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet. However, with the Brazilian international’s imminent signing, opportunities for Ward to get much-needed game time would be severely limited, meaning he has to leave for the good of his career.

Ward spent the 2016/17 season on loan at then-Championship side Huddersfield Town, and Terriers boss David Wagner was keen to bring him back last season, but the deal never materialised. In all, he made just one appearance for Liverpool last season – coincidentally, in a 2-0 defeat to Leicester in the EFL Cup.

Quite what this means for Karius and Mignolet remains to be seen too, but one would think now that one of those two (but probably not both) will be remaining at Anfield this season.

Leicester, for their part, are looking for increased competition for Kasper Schmeichel, despite Ben Harner and Eldin Jakupovic already vying for places in the squad.

Ward’s arrival, however, will likely only serve to increase speculation regarding Schmeichel’s future at the King Power – particularly with reports on Thursday morning suggesting that Roma would be looking at the Danish international as a potential replacement for Liverpool-bound Alisson.
