Ex-footballer turned actor Vinnie Jones has let rip about Jamie Carragher’s spitting incident in a stunning rant, branding the former Liverpool star “cowardly” and “absolute filth”.
Carragher was caught in a storm after footage emerged on Sunday of him spitting towards a passing car, with a teenage girl apparently hit in the face by the flying spittle.
The former England international has since apologised but that hasn’t prevented several people calling for him to be sacked from his role as a Sky Sports pundit.
One of those is former Wales international Jones, who was no stranger to controversy himself during his playing days. He did not mince his words when talking to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT on Monday morning, even claiming he would have been after Carragher if it was his daughter in the car.
“It is cowardly.
“How has the lad driving it not driven after Jamie, rammed him, dragged him out of the car and beat seven… you know what I mean.
“If someone spat at my daughter sitting in the car, I would have been after them.”
“There is no sitting on the fence here, Jamie is down the road – down the Jobcentre tomorrow.
“Spitting at 14-year-olds through a window? He is presenting on the TV. For Christ’s sake, he is supposed to be one of the top men.
“You can’t condone that whatsoever. It is filth, it is absolute filth.”
It is yet to be seen what punishment, if any, Carragher will receive but this incident may have done irreparable damage to his reputation.
