Vincent Kompany’s Mini-Rant On Modern Football Is Brilliantly Refreshing

Modern football is moving at an astounding rate. With transfer fees sky-rocketing, TV deals soaring and the gap between fans and clubs increasing, the sport is losing its soul in many ways.

Nobody needs examples of this. The behemoth that is the Premier League is snowballing year on year, as the game becomes more and more commercial.

The riches possessed by the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea ensure they are paving the way in England’s top flight, and there is a clear gulf between the top six and the chasing pack.

Of course, the very fact that teams are being run as businesses could leave the normal fan left behind.

Thankfully, when it all appears to be getting too much, we have Vincent Kompany. The Manchester City captain took to Twitter today to launch a mini-rant on the subject, making his thoughts perfectly clear.

“The PL is unique, financially dominant and global. I imagine that a general decline in stadium atmosphere can damage the value of that product. Link to ticket pricing, seating location and safe standing is almost inevitable. Long-term gains vs short-term profits, eternal dilemma.”

What a man!
