The most recent Ballon d’Or award was dominated by La Liga superstars such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.
However, this doesn’t mean that the world of football is currently being dominated by these three La Liga world beaters, as there has been many lethal goalscorers making a huge impact across Europe this season.
Wondering who these goalscorers may be? Read on to find out.
7. Jamie Vardy – Leicester City
Vardy flung himself into the limelight this season when he scored in eleven consecutive Premier League games to set a new record. The Englishman has been hugely influential in helping his team compete for the Premier League title this season by scoring 19 goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances.
The 29-year-old has worked his way up from non-league football to now potentially being in with a shout of lifting the Premier League trophy this season and he will surely be nominated for PFA Player of the Season later this year.
6. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund performed well below par last season but have returned to form in the 2015/16 campaign. One of their star performers has been lethal attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has managed to score an impressive 31 goals and four assists in 29 appearances.
This impressive scoring record includes 20 goals in 20 Bundesliga games, which makes him the second highest goalscorer in the German league. No wonder there has been plenty of rumours of top clubs across Europe wanting to sign the forward next summer.
5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – PSG
We witnessed Zlatan put his team ahead with a deflected free-kick during their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night. The Swedish striker has often been criticised for being a lazy and selfish player but his record this season has been impressive enough to make him the fifth top striker in Europe this season.
During this campaign, Zlatan has scored 29 goals in 35 games, including 21 goals in 19 league appearances. The Swedish star’s creativity doesn’t stop there though, as he has also created ten assists for his teammates so far this season.
4. Robert Lewandowski – Bayern Munich
Lewandowski amazed football fans everywhere when he managed to score five goals in nine minutes in late 2015 and since then he has gone on a fantastic scoring run. This season, the Polish striker has scored 33 goals in 32 games in all competitions; this includes 21 goals in 18 league appearances.
The current Bundesliga top goal scorer has been recognised as one of the most lethal strikers in world football this season so it is no wonder that he has been named Polish Player of the Year for five years in a row.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid
It is no real surprise that Ronaldo features high on this list as he has been scoring a high proportion of Real Madrid’s goals for the last couple of seasons.
During this campaign, the Portugal star has scored 32 goals in 31 games in all competitions, including 21 goals in 24 league games. Ronaldo is currently the La Liga’s second highest top goal scorer but Real Madrid currently sit a disappointing third in the league.
2. Luis Suarez – Barcelona
Luis Suarez has settled in amazingly well at Barcelona since arriving in the 2014/15 season. He has helped create a lethal trio alongside Neymar and Messi. The Uruguayan finished off Messi’s cheeky penalty kick at the weekend to score yet another hat-trick.
This term, the Barcelona striker has scored 39 goals in 35 games in all competitions. The Uruguayan has also managed to create ten assists for his teammates while the majority of them have probably been finished off by Messi or Neymar.
1. Gonzalo Higuain – Napoli
The Argentinian striker has enjoyed quite an impressive campaign, scoring 28 goals in 36 games in all competitions including 24 goals in 25 league games. These 24 league goals make him Serie A’s top goalscorer by a whopping eleven goals and it also makes him the current top goalscorer across all of the leagues in Europe.
The prolific scoring record of Higuain this season has helped put Napoli in a title race this term, as they are only currently one point off leaders Juventus.
