On Sunday, Cesc Fabregas will visit the Emirates stadium for the first time since he signed for Chelsea. His reception will, in all probability, be quite hostile.
The Spanish midfielder was viewed as one of Arsenal’s greatest players during his time at the club and, had he stayed with the North London side, he would surely have been remembered as one of the all time Arsenal legends.
At present, a flag with Cesc Fabregas’s image still hangs from the Emirates in memory of what he did during his time under Wenger’s tutelage. However, at present, Arsenal fans want that flag torn down and are ready to give him a hostile welcome on Sunday for what they feel was a massive betrayal (Cesc signing for Chelsea).
Speaking at his press conference this morning, Wenger was asked if he regretted not signing the midfielder in the summer. He had the following to say.
“The regret I have is that he wanted to leave here,” the Arsenal boss said.
“This club and myself had a very positive influence on Cesc’s life, so I would be a bit uncomfortable to have to justify today why he is not here. I believe I would rather it was the other way around.”
