According to The Guardian, last night, French giants PSG made a paltry bid of £28.5 million for Manchester United star Angel Di Maria.
The 27-year-old Argentine winger is said to be dead set on a move to Paris after refusing to show up for The Red Devils preseason tour of America.
The former Real Madrid star was, this time last year, considered as one of the greatest talents in world football. Having just won the man of the match award in a game that saw his club claiming the Champions League (Real Madrid’s ‘Decima’), Di Maria was so highly rated that United broke the British transfer record in order to ensure his move to Old Trafford.
However, despite flashes of brilliance, Di Maria’s debut Premier League season was overall underwhelming and with rumours circulating that he has fallen out with his Dutch manager, it’s no wonder that United may now be looking to sell.
Despite this willingness however, it seems the move has once again been cast into doubt. After United paid £59.7 million for the Argentine superstar last August, PSG bid just £28.5 million for his services yesterday.
To put that into context, PSG offered less than Liverpool paid for Christian Benteke… £4 million less.
After such an insulting bid, a bid that would see United taking a hit of over £30 million, one has to wonder if the Old Trafford giants will walk away from the negotiations altogether.
It remains to be seen how this one will turn out but according to French boss Laurent Blanc, PSG will get the deal done as he said there will be a ‘positive outcome’ to negotiations.
