During Manchester United’s press conference today ahead of their Premier League game against Sunderland, manager Louis van Gaal tried to explain the reasons behind £36 million signing Anthony Martial’s impressive start.
Since signing, Martial’s record has made for impressive viewing. In two Premier League appearances he has notched up there goals while he has added to that tally with a neat finish against Ipswich Town this week.
The 19-year-old is now on the verge of breaking a Manchester United record of being the first player to score in his opening three Premier League matches for the Old Trafford outfit. Two goals against Sunderland this weekend would also make Martial the fastest player to five Premier League goals for United, according to Sky Sports.
So what has put Martial on the brink of breaking some of these impressive records?
Well, Van Gaal believes it’s a combination of luck, the players around him and the quality he evidently has to offer.
“It’s also that luck that he has but of course the main thing is his quality because as a player he has to do it,” Van Gaal told the assembled media.
“He has to cope with the pressure and what we have seen ’til now, he can do it.”
