David Villa finished exquisitely from an Andrea Pirlo pass in the MLS for New York City last night. Yes, that’s a sentence we never thought we’d read either.
However, Pirlo is now starting to slip neatly into his new role at New York City, where he is arguably the east coast club’s biggest ever signing.
The moment of ingenuity from Pirlo happened at a crucial stage of the game as both New York and DC United were level with one goal apiece as the clock trickled towards the last ten minutes of the game.
In Pirlo’s usual textbook fashion, he clipped a ball expertly between two of DC’s defenders only for the ex-Barcelona man to pounce with the DC back line back-tracking.
Kwadwo Poku sealed New York’s victory in the 88th minute, as the MLS side ran out 3-1 winners, no thanks to two of European football’s former greats matching up to put City ahead.
Watch Pirlo’s moment of unquestionable genius and Villa’s smooth finish below.
