Gibraltar were never going to realistically give Germany anything to worry about in their European Championships qualifying game last night, eventually losing 7-0, but an unlikely hero has emerged in the match’s aftermath.
The unlikeliest of heroes one may pick out from a scoreline such as this is the goalkeeper but Jordan Perez saved his side from going down by at least another four or five goals against the Germans.
He even saved a penalty in the first half, which meant his side were just 1-0 down to the World Cup winners at half-time. Quite an achievement for a player whose main occupation is firefighting.
