Seamus Coleman’s double leg break earlier this year in Ireland’s World Cup qualifier versus Wales was a huge blow to the Ireland set-up.
With less and less Irishmen featuring regularly in the Premier League, Coleman is one of a handful who plays week in, week out. Not only that, he is regarded by many as one of the top right-backs in world football.
Therefore it is no surprise much has been made of his debilitating injury as well as the man tasked with taking his place in the team, Cyrus Christie.
The Derby County defender, when speaking to Keith Andrews ahead of Sunday’s Uruguay friendly, did recognise that a major opportunity now presents itself to him but he is evidently not pleased with how it came about.

With Ireland taking on Austria next weekend at the Aviva Stadium Christie’s input could be crucial in what is one of the most important games of the qualifying campaign.
Getting in more practice alongside his international defensive teammates against the South American side on Sunday will do no harm in the lead up to the group D clash.
