According to The Independent, Man United are ready to offer Juventus a gargantuan sum of £100m to lure former player Paul Pogba to Old Trafford.
In what would be a world first, Jose Mourinho would be delighted to beat his former employers to the widely sought-after Frenchman.
The 23-year-old midfielder has largely failed to shine for France at this summer’s Euros albeit in a different position to what he is accustomed to with the Scudetto holders but interest in him has only increased since the start of the summer.
The Daily Mail have also reported that United would be willing to pay Pogba a whopping £250,000 a week, making the prodigy one of the Premier League’s most highly-paid players.
Madrid have long been linked with Pogba, and his agent Mino Raiola has made no secret of meetings with the Spanish giants, but Spanish outlets Marca and AS have both reported that the club have switched their focus onto Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante.
Mourinho has already signed Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a combined total of £65m, but the recruitment of Pogba would undoubtedly make United the highest spending club in Europe for this window.
For the moment, Pogba is focused on his country’s crunch clash with Iceland in the quarter-final of the Euros at 8pm tonight.
However, such is Pogba’s disgruntlement with his time in Manchester that it may take Mourinho and company several more weeks to convince Juventus’s midfield maestro to return to the Premier League.
