Since Jamie Vardy’s proposed move from champions Leicester City fell apart, the rumours on which striker will be on his way to Arsenal have hit unprecedented levels.

It is common knowledge that Arsene Wenger’s side need reinforcements in this area – first to back up inconsistent performer Olivier Giroud and second to fill in for Danny Welbeck, who is currently suffering from a long-term injury following knee surgery.

But who is the man to splash the cash on?

On this very subject, Sky Sports has now come up with a list of the players that Wenger is reportedly considering, in order of how likely the deal is.

Some will not come as a surprise to those fans who are keeping up to date with Wenger’s search. Romelu Lukaku is second on the list; the Belgian is currently on two goals at Euro 2016, making him the highest scoring player for his nation.

The Everton man is on hot form in the Premier League too, overshadowing Giroud with 18 goals. With Mesut Ozil pulling the strings, it wouldn’t be naïve to assume his tally would increase in an Arsenal shirt.

Some fans, however, aren’t convinced by the Belgian. They argue that he doesn’t pose a different threat to Giroud, and perhaps Arsenal need someone with more pace to challenge for the title next year.

Much to the delight of these particular fans, Lukaku’s name isn’t number one on the Sky Sports list. That title is with Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.

The 23-year-old Argentinian has been vital to Inter Milan’s last two Serie A seasons, scoring a combined 38 goals over those years. And given his age, it’s safe to say he’ll have a lot to offer Arsenal if he does end up signing.

West Ham are interested in his services too, but the allure of Champions League football and the might of the Gunners may sway him towards north London.

Inter Milan are keen to retain the Argentinian though, somewhat unsurprisingly. Their £33 million valuation during negotiations with West Ham will likely increase if Arsenal get involved, as the Italian side know that Wenger is sitting on an astronomical cash reserve.

It is now up to the Gunners boss to decide which striker deserves the cash. This will most likely polarise Arsenal fans, however, as some will argue for Lukaku’s Premier League experience, where others will point to Icardi’s blistering pace and fantastic goal-scoring record.
