After Jose Mourinho’s astonishing opening salvo with the press on Tuesday, today was the turn of his so-called nemesis, Pep Guardiola.

The former Barcelona and Bayern coach is taking over at the Etihad following Manuel Pellegrini’s three year stint coming to an end. He arrives in Manchester with a great CV, but also with a point to prove. He had unprecedented success in the Catalan capital before taking a year out from the game.

He returned in 2013, in Bavaria. He comfortably won the league in each of his three seasons in the Allianz Arena but never reached the incredible heights he had scaled with La Blaugrana. The Champions League trophy eluded him and so, his tenure was labeled a failure.

Guardiola now starts a new chapter with the Citizens and today represents one of the first steps in City’s new era.

Twitter had plenty to say as he addressed the media for the first time. While impressive and eloquent, it wasn’t exactly the explosive brilliance of Mourinho’s presser.

His dress sense and awkward jokes dominated the early minutes.

Some United fans had a few laughs at the expense of their rivals.

He did reveal some big news.

He had little to say on Mourinho and was characteristically respectful.
