Distraught England Fans React On Twitter To Finishing Below Wales In Euro 2016 Group

Despite beating Wales 2-1 in Lens last week, England somehow managed to finish below them in tonight’s final round of Euro 2016 Group B fixtures.

A frustrating 0-0 draw with Slovakia was only enough for Roy Hodgson’s side to finish in second place, behind a Wales side who destroyed Russia 3-0 in the other game.

Despite dominating the game, a much-change SEngland were unable to break down the Slovakian rearguard, and could potentially meet Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the next round as a result.

The final group standings see Wales qualify as group winners in their very first appearance in the competition with six points, with England finishing in second on five points and Slovakia in third on four.

The ramifications for the next round for both Wales and England, are that Roy Hodgson’s side will play the runner-up of Group B, the group containing Portugal,  Iceland, Austria and Hungary, while Wales will face the third placed side in either group A, C or D, depending on how those groups play out tomorrow.

As one can imagine, the social media reaction to Wales finishing the group ahead of England, especially given the late dramatics of Daniel Sturridge’s winner last Thursday, have about them the unmistakable whiff of thoroughly depressed England fans:

Of course, some were quite happy to engage in a bit of schadenfreude:
