Manchester City are making extremely hard work of their Premier League clash against Everton at the Etihad.
Pep Guardiola’s Premier League table leaders enjoyed the lion’s share of possession they have been finding the Everton defence tough to break down, though they found the net once through birthday boy Noltio.
However, they should really have won the game. They have been awarded two penalties in this match, but somehow managed to miss on both occasions.
Kevin De Bruyne was the first to miss, his effort saved by Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
They got the chance to atone for that in the second half, only for substitute Sergio Aguero’s effort to go the same way.

Stekelenburg has made a number of fine saves and evidently had one of the best games of his career.
Naturally, social media isn’t exactly feeling much empathy for Man City’s penalty travails:
2 – Maarten Stekelenburg has saved two penalties against Man City; the eighth occasion a GK has done so in a single PL game. Specialist.

Is it possible for Man City to decline a penalty and just take a corner or literally any other type of free kick? #shocking

Man City’s penalty taking abilities are beyond embarrassing
