Premier League champions Leicester City made their first appearance in the Champions League tonight, and it was one to remember.
Their title defence may not exactly be going to plan, but their status as an unknown quantity in Europe is something that they plan on using fully to their advantage.
Club Brugge had suggested that the reason that they had not sold out the Jan Braydel Stdium for tonight was that the opposition were not prestigious enough – but everyone at that club now knows exactly who Leicester City are as they went down 3-0 to the English side.
A defensive mix-up in the Brugge box allowed Marc Albrighton to strike into an unguarded net after just five minutes, before a brilliant Riyad Mahrez free-kick doubled the advantage on the half-hour mark.
Mahrez got his second and Leicester’s third via a penalty with an hour gone, capping a brilliant night for Claudio Ranier’s side.
Social media has been quick to praise the Foxes on their special night, the after-effects of what was a glorious campaign last year:

Good to see Leicester looking themselves again. There’s more mileage in the formula they used last season, if the players are up for it.

With Porto and FC Copenhagen playing out a 1-1 draw in the other group match, Leicester can enjoy the feeling of being on top of a table once again.
