Twitter Destroys Graeme Souness Following Controversial Claims Regarding Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho did not enjoy the success some expected he would in his first season as Manchester United manager.

The Portuguese did see his team lift the Europa League trophy and thus secure Champions League qualification last month as well as claim the EFL Cup and Community Shield but finishing the league in lowly 6th is not unquestionably good enough.

However, the former Chelsea boss made huge strides forward from where Louis van Gaal left United and had the Reds been more clinical in front of goal, the domestic season could have gone very differently.

Despite the undeniable progress made, former Liverpool coach Graeme Souness is adamant The Special One is not the man for the job. He told Kevin Palmer of Yahoo Sport:

“I didn’t think Mourinho was right for United and I said that from day one. Because Guardiola was coming in at Manchester City, the people making decisions at Old Trafford felt compelled to go and get a big name manager and they ended up with Jose.

“He has taken on a very difficult job at United and struggled to find his find his best eleven last season, if he ever found it.”

Souness, who boasts, at best, a fair record as a manager, then went on to highlight where exactly it was going wrong.

“A big concern for me that their best player for most of last season was a 35-year-old in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with 35-year-old Michael Carrick also one of the top performers.”

Neither of those things are true, by the way.

Fans across Twitter were quick to react to the Scot’s remarks.
