Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal gave the strongest indication yet that Ryan Giggs will take up the hot seat at Old Trafford after he retires.
Speaking at an event in Manchester today, the Iron Tulip was asked about the exorbitant fee paid for French starlet Anthony Martial. Van Gaal responded directly with perhaps more honesty than many would have expected.
“Yes I spend a lot of money on Martial, but I buy him for my successor, Ryan Giggs.”
Van Gaal went on to state that he feels the fee is justified and that he is positive Martial will be a huge star in the future. However, in his response, most were drawn by the massive indication Van Gaal gave that his assistant manager is next in line for perhaps the most highly sought-after job in football management.
With Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp currently unattached and Pep Guardiola set to be readily available from next summer, many had suspected that United would move for another blockbuster name after Van Gaal packs it in.
The Dutch manager has already confirmed that he will retire in 2017, but many are already predicting that the the Red Devils may part company with Van Gaal within the next 9 months, should he fail to mount a serious title challenge this season.
Should that be the case, one would surely imagine that the Manchester United board would find it hard to refuse the allure of such a massive name taking the reigns at Old Trafford, particularly in the cases of Ancelotti and Guardiola.
However, if all goes according to the Iron Tulip’s plans, it seems Ryan Giggs is prepped and ready to take charge in the summer of 2017.
