Turkish Giants Reportedly Interested, But Schweinsteiger Insists He’s Staying Put

The clear out at Manchester United is already well underway as José Mourinho wields his axe in the hope of building a squad capable of challenging for silverware once again.

Paddy McNair, Donald Love, Adnan Januzaj, Tyler Blackett, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and James Wilson have all departed either on loan or on permanent deals, while the futures of Marco Rojo, Phil Jones and Bastian Schweinsteiger could be decided before next week’s deadline.

According to Turkish Football.com (via German tabloid Bild), the ex-German international could be on his way to Galatasaray for as little as £2 million.

However, in a message delivered on social media on Wednesday, the player himself maintained he “will be ready, if the team needs (him)”, suggesting he has no immediate move in mind.

United are desperate to offload the high wage earner from their books as his future at the club is all but over with reports the player has been ordered to clear his first team locker and has been training with the U23 reserves since his return to the Manchester following Euro 2016.

The player has been actively supporting his team-mates on social media despite his omission by Mourinho and posted a picture of himself in the Stretford End watching his team defeat Southampton on Friday night at Old Trafford.

Reports suggest the Red Devils are eager to get deals done for both Monaco full back Fabinho and Southampton defender Jose Fonte, so the club will be hoping to offload the fringe players including Schweinsteiger as soon as possible.

Galatasaray, for their part, are said to be very interested in adding the experienced 32-year-old to their ranks and would be willing to pay half his wages if a temporary move can be agreed.

With the arrival of Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba to the club already this summer, Schweinsteiger has found himself surplus to requirements. The departure of Louis Van Gaal, too, was a blow as he was a firm favourite with the Dutchman when fit.
