The transfer window is creeping up on us so here’s a quick round-up of the absurd, the plausible and the likely deals Manchester United are being linked with.
Unsurprisingly it’s a defender frenzy. Manchester United fans awoke this morning to news they were in the market for two potential centre backs.
The Telegraph say Manchester United are considering a bid for the experience and talented Atletico defender Diego Godin. The Uruguayan has a pretty heft release clause of €36m (£28.5m) according to the paper. They report that this figure doesn’t scare United off, but for a player that’s 28 years old it is an awful lot.
In the same article LvG and the gang have also been linked with another big name Centre-Back. This time it’s perennially transfer linked German Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund. If you’ve been living under a rock since September you might not know Dortmund are currently rubbish and are bottom of the Bundesliga.
This has sent Mats Hummels stories into overdrive with a January move away being touted by the Mirror also.
Back to The Telegraph who have provided a perhaps more reasonable if less impressive target. Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has played under LvG in the World Cup and will enter the last six months of his contract in January. Knowing how hard it is to bring in big players midway through the season could he be the most likely to come in?
There’s even more Manchester United news though, Norwegian ‘Wonderkid’ Martin Odegaard has not been subject of a bid according to Strømsgodset IF Sporting Director Justein Flo.
