Tractor Boys Set To Go Top: Brighton vs Ipswich

Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town travel to Brighton tonight in a game which pits the struggling Seagulls against the third-placed Tractor Boys.

A hefty Irish international contingent are once again set to feature in McCarthy’s starting line-up as they aim to make it two wins in a row following their 3-1 win over Millwall.

Another Irish addition in Paddy Kenny could take up a position between the sticks following his move from Bolton. David McGoldrick could return to the fold following his omission, due to injury sustained against Southampton in the FA Cup, which saw Noel Hunt stand in as replacement alongside top-scorer Daryl Murphy.

It may not be easy for McGoldrick to make his way back into the team however, with Hunt scoring a brace against the London side.

Continuing with the Irish international theme, newly-signed Leon Best could line-out for Brighton in tonight’s clash having signed from Blackburn on loan.

Ipswich, currently in third will hope that they will have enough to overcome a struggling Brighton side who lay in 20th place, just three points from the relegation zone.

However, there is no such thing as a simple game in the Championship but McCarthy will be expecting his side to be able to come out on the right side against the relegation fighters tonight.

If Murphy and Hunt/McGoldrick are on song against Brighton tonight then it is difficult to see past a win for McCarthy’s men.

Add to this that Sky Sports are reporting the Seagulls have three injury concerns, including Craig Mackail-Smith, Greg Halfrod and Jake Forster-Caskey, who all sustained knocks in their previous game. That match, against Brentford also saw Lewis Dunk pick up a suspension due to his red card against the west London side.

Brighton will be disheartened from their loss to Brentford but having not lost a game up until that point since the 20th of December they could pose a threat to Ipswich.

Despite this, the Blues will have too much in the end for Brighton, even away from home.
