Done Deal: Tottenham Midfielder Joins Hull For £12m

Hull City have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason, both clubs have announced today.

The Tigers have completed a deal for the 25-year-old, and while the fee has not been officially disclosed, earlier reports have valued the deal at £12m – a club record for Hull.

Mike Phelan’s side had been battling Sunderland for Mason since the end of last week, and though both had agreed fees with Tottenham, the player himself opted to move to the KCOM Stadium.

Mason did not have much of a future at White Hart Lane, having had no involvement in their Premier League season so far.

Although he made his first-team breakthrough under Mauricio Pochettino in 2014, he had fallen out of favour with the manager in recent times. 2015 signing Dele Alli surged ahead of him in the pecking order, as did converted centre-back Eric Dier, and the £12m arrival of Victor Wanyama this summer appeared to end all hope of Mason having a Tottenham future.

Nonetheless, his old club wished him well at his new side.

Mason becomes the second player to be signed by Hull in the past 24 hours. Scottish international goalkeeper David Marshall signed for the club in a £5m deal from Cardiff earlier today, bringing the total number of fit senior players at the club to 15.

Further arrivals are set to follow on tomorrow’s deadline day, with a £1m deal for Manchester United striker Will Keane close to being finalised.

Meanwhile, talks are ongoing with Derby County to sign £10m-valued Irish international midfielder Jeff Hendrick.
