Arsenal: Top Journalist Breaks Two Big Updates In Giroud/Higuain Swap Saga

With Arsenal still on the hunt for a new striker, recent reports confirmed that Arsene Wenger was in discussions with Napoli regarding a swap deal involving Oliver Giroud and Gonzalo Higuain.

Although transfers involving the swapping of players have almost become nonexistent in recent years, a swap move involving Giroud and Higuain seems to be a very legitimate possibility after the French striker’s agent openly (and rather positively) discussed the proposition.

Speaking to Radio CRC, agent Michael Manuello had the following to say;

“There is no fear from Olivier about possibly going to Napoli, it is a magnificent city. In Campania, my client could lead a wonderful life.”

“Not to mention that the type of game played by Sarri could enhance the quality of a centre-forward like him.”

However, with Arsenal fans giddy over the possibility of Higuain plying his trade at the Emirates next season, Italian journalist Raffaele Auriemma has dropped two rather negative updates regarding the proposed deal.

Auriemma was the journalist who initially bagged the interview with Giroud’s agent and seems to have now established himself as the major authority on the evolving story.

Today, writing for Gonfialarete, Auriemma announced that Wenger had taken a step back from negotiations after someone from Napoli allegedly leaked news of the deal. The journalist also went onto state that Napoli club president De Laurentiis is also furious over the discussions becoming public.

This certainly appears to be a huge step back in Arsenal’s pursuit of Higuain. However, although Auriemma does claim that negotiations seems to have stalled, it doesn’t appear as if the deal is dead in the water as of yet.
