Sky Sports’ Tony Cascarino has blasted Arsenal for not making big money moves in the transfer market this summer, and has explained why the Gunners have refused to meet Lyon’s demands for Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners have failed miserably to compete with their rivals this summer, with Granit Xhaka the only high profile acquisition made by the London outfit.
Chelsea have added Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante, whilst Manchester City have enjoyed an outstanding summer.
The Citizens have recruited John Stones, Ilkay Gündogan, Gabriel Jesus, and Nolito to name but a few, and their city rivals Manchester United have broken the world transfer record to sign Paul Pogba.
Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Villareal’s Eric Bailly and Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic make up the rest of the new signings at Old Trafford.
Everton have also immediately acted upon their new-found financial resources by signing Ashley Williams for a very reasonable £12m from Swansea as well as Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace and Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa.
However, Arsene Wenger has essentially removed Arsenal from contention for the title race this season, and Cascarino cannot understand it.
The former Chelsea star cites his f0rmer club’s signing of Batshuayi as the main reason as to why Arsenal will not move forward with the Lacazette deal, stressing that they believe the players are of the same value.
Cascarino also points out that there has been an increasing trend in this reluctance in the market for Arsenal, referring to the Gunners failed move for Luis Suarez as evidence.
