Tim Sherwood Has Already Made A Move To Get The Aston Villa Job

The manager’s seat at Aston Villa is barely cold, but one former boss has already made a play to get his job back.

Tim Sherwood, who lasted eight months at Villa Park before being sacked in October 2015, has expressed his interest in the vacancy following the firing of Roberto Di Matteo this morning.

The 47-year-old led the club to the FA Cup final in 2015, but was removed from his post after a run of ten games without a win had left the club in 19th place in the Premier League table. As it turned out, his replacement Rémi Garde fared no better than the former Tottenham boss, and they have since been relegated to the Championship.

Sherwood was speaking on Talksport this morning (cited in other sources), wherein he threw his hat into the ring and suggested that the problems he faced at the club during his own spell were down the board instability at the time, saying:

“I don’t know these owners. I was there under a different regime.

“The guy I was with (Randy Lerner) wanted out so it was a really difficult situation for me.

“When you go into a club where someone where someone wants to really pick it up and take it forward then it’s a great opportunity for any young manager.

“I’d be no different to anyone else (in being interested).”

Lerner has since left the club, though it is not known just how enamoured new chairman Tony Xia would be with “Tactics Tim.”

That being said, Sherwood’s odds have since narrowed on making a surprise return to Aston Villa, though Steve Bruce has become the current favourite to get the role.
