Another one bites the dust…
With Nani having just finalised a move to Fenerbahce and Robin Van Persie (according to The Guardian) reportedly set to join him, Manchester United defender Rafael is now looking set to follow suit.
Unlike the other two, Rafael is reportedly considering Galatasaray as his next club according to the Manchester Evening News.
It has been clear for some time that United manager Louis van Gaal does not really rate his Brazilian right back with the Dutch manager more often than not selecting winger Antonio Valencia in his stead.
Setting Valencia aside, it has now also been widely reported that The Red Devils are on the look out for a new right back in this trasfer window with Everton’s Seamus Coleman looking like the favourite.
If that deal were to be done, Rafael would fall into third place in the pecking order which surely would mean that a departure is imminent.
Rafael and his twin brother Fabio signed from Fluminense in January 2008 and many believed that the deadly duo would cover the defensive flanks for many years to come. However, Although Fabio did in fact start the 2011 Champions League final, he was since been sold to Cardiff City.
His brother now also looks set to follow him out the exit door and it is understood that Galatasaray are the favourites to secure his signature.
Manchester United are reported to be looking for a fee of around £8 million for Rafael who only has one year left on his current contract at Old Trafford… considering the fact that Nani just went for a fee of £4.25m, we doubt United will be getting anywhere close to that asking price.
