Zlatan Ibrahimović is a man who takes no prisoners, as many have found out to their cost in the past.
Of the few who could stand up to the Swedish striker, one think that notorious hard man Gennaro Gattuso would be right up there as a man who could hold his own, but even he bore the brunt of Zlatan’s ire – albeit in a comical fashion.
Speaking to Sky Deutschland (in an interview cited by Football Italia among others) ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League clash against Manchester City, Thiago Silva – current PSG teammate of Ibrahimović – recounted a story dating back to when the three players were together at Serie A giants AC Milan in 2011.
“The protagonist of this story is Zlatan Ibrahimović,
“One day, during a training session, Gattuso spent all morning teasing Zlatan. He was provoking him, and Zlatan took it without apparently saying anything. In fact his revenge would come soon after.
“Rino and Zlatan met again in the dressing room after training, and Ibra lifted the entire weight of his team-mate, flipped him over and threw him in the bin!
“It was crazy, we all started laughing thinking about Gattuso’s face. I swear, I couldn’t stop laughing for a week!”
Although no footage of this incident exists (unfortunately), this compilation video will give a good account of what it is like to play and train with a maverick such as Zlatan Ibrahimović:
Zlatan and Thiago Silva have just won their fourth successive Ligue 1 championship, while Gattuso is head coach at Italian third division side Pisa.
