Manchester Evening News’ reporters have compiled three different line ups of both Manchester United and Manchester City players, and it is safe to say they are incredible.
The favourites for the Premier League title face off against each other at Old Trafford at the weekend, with Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola reigniting a long standing rivalry that stems from their time at the helm of Spain’s biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The MEN writers have selected the strongest possible eleven from both sides. Here’s Stuart Mathieson’s pick.
David de Gea is far and away the stand-out No.1 and up front a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-Sergio Aguero match up has everything you want from a front two – nous, power, ad-lib ability, proven goalscoring. There isn’t a weakness there.
At the back a fit Vincent Kompany would be a perfect foil to the in-form Daley Blind though Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and John Stones could have a case for knocking on my door.
In midfield there is an embarrassment of riches but two from the Reds and two from the Blues seems perfect, though my choice is on Anthony Martial’s form from last year rather than the start of this campaign.
Stuart Brennan is next up, opting for a quality packed midfield.
Rob Dawson’s side is arguably the strongest and most cohesive, featuring a wonderful midfield partnership in the form of Paul Pogba and Fernandinho as well as an outrageous attacking trio.
Finally, Rob Pollard is the only writer to include Gündogan in his team.
Luke Shaw is expected to be fully fit for the gargantuan clash, whilst Antonio Valencia could also shake off injury worries.
However, Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks set to miss out completely after suffering a problem playing for Armenia during international duty.
Marouane Fellaini sustained a back injury in the triumph over Hull and could miss out.
Looking at the blue half of Manchester, Sergio Agüero will miss the derby after incurring a three-match suspension for his elbow aimed towards West Ham’s Winston Reid in the Citizen’s 3-1 win.
Leroy Sane’s fitness will be assessed, as will Ilkay Gündogan.
Elsewhere, Joe Hart was amongst a number of first-team players to leave the Etihad on loan during transfer deadline day, so Claudio Bravo is expected to make his debut for Guardiola’s outfit.
Which of the four hypothetical line-up’s is the strongest?
