Uncertainty Surrounds Mustafi Deal After Story Takes Bizarre Twist

Arsenal

Super Deporte have brought yet another bizarre twist to Shkodran Mustafi’s possible move to Arsenal, via the player’s father.

The Spanish news outlet have said that Mustafi’s father told Valencia yesterday that Ali Bulut is not even the German’s representative, and that he is not aware of any Arsenal talks.

The former Sampdoria defender was fully expected to join the Gunners yesterday after Sky in Germany had announced that the player had agreed terms as tweeted by Sky Sports News chief reporter Bryan Swanson.

His supposed agent Bulut had been quoted in an interview with German publication Spox that the player had agreed to move to London, but then contacted Kicker claiming that Spox had manipulated his words.

The news that Bulut is not the player’s agent is not cause for happiness however with the negative updates from Mustafi’s father.

Arsenal

Arsenal are in desperate need of a new centre-back with Laurent Koscielny not yet fully fit whilst Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista are both sidelined through injury.

Arsene Wenger’s team begin their season against Liverpool on Sunday, and the Merseyside outfit have no such injury problems.

Despite Martin Skrtl’s exit, Ragnar Klavan has been purchased from Augsburg to shore up the defence.

Elsewhere, Georginio Wijnaldum, Loris Karius and Sadio Mane have also signed for Jurgen Klopp’s new-look side as the Reds look to achieve at least a European place finish this season.

Daniel Sturridge is also close to a return, and could feature.

Granit Xhaka is set to make his Premier League debut for Arsenal, and Rob Holding is to be thrown into the lions den at centre-back alongside either Koscielny or Calum Chambers.

What we do know is that Shkodran Mustafi will not be lining up as an Arsenal player by kick-off time on Sunday afternoon.
