The Telegraph Reveal Exactly How Much Arsenal Will Have To Pay For Lacazette

Arsenal are set to be informed on Thursday by French club Lyon that their star forward Alexandre Lacazette is now worth an astonishing €70m (£59.9m) according to the Telegraph.

This comes hours after the same source claimed that Lyon are ready to offer Lacazette the ‘biggest contract in [the] club’s history’ amidst intense interest from Arsene Wenger’s side.

Sources close to Lacazette have claimed that the player himself is quite keen on a move to the Premier League to become an Arsenal player, but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has been adamant that the club’s prize asset will not leave.

Aulas is now employing the common tactic in modern football of inflating his player’s transfer fee in a bid to stave off suitors.

Arsenal had not been keen to pay past £35 million for Gonzalo Higuain when he was available for transfer at Real Madrid in 2013, and still appear to be cautious in the transfer market after refusing to pay what was necessary to acquire either Alvaro Morata or Mauro Icardi, both with staggering valuations.

Arsenal had previously offered £29.95 million in a bid that was £3 million short of West Ham United’s £32 million offer for the French international in June.

Danny Welbeck’s injury rules him out for the first half of the season, whilst Alexis is not yet fully fit.

Lacazette would be the ideal candidate to play with Olivier Giroud up front or even take the mantle himself in a 4-2-3-1, but it is unlikely that Arsenal will commit to paying such an astronomical sum for the forward.

However, with time and options running out, Arsene Wenger better have alternative plans.
