With talk of a deal between Manchester United and Real Madrid surrounding star players Sergio Ramos and David de Gea cooling slightly of late, news today now suggests that, the players at least, want a deal to go ahead.
Speaking on Talksport, Spanish football expert Sid Lowe has revealed that both players still want to transfer from their current club to their respective European neighbours.
“David de Gea wants to go to Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos does want to move to Manchester United. That would imply that this should happen but we’ve got a long way to go still.”
Although De Gea only has one year left on his current deal, meaning if United don’t sell now they could potentially lose out on a mammoth transfer fee, Lowe suggests the club are putting his talents and value to the team ahead of the cash they could potentially receive.
“United’s position with Ramos is relatively clear. If Real do not allow them to sign Ramos, they will not let De Gea go.”
“The two deals at the moment are dependent. If he [De Gea] has to stay for a year and then go on a free next summer, so be it. But they have the ability to use De Gea as leverage to get Ramos.”
Other rumours surrounding the two clubs, notably more stories today suggesting Gareth Bale may still be going to United are erroneous, according to Lowe.
“Gareth Bale won’t leave Real Madrid for Manchester United this summer.”
