Sunderland manager David Moyes continues to add to his 23-man squad entering the final week of the summer transfer window acquiring former Liverpool defender Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan deal.
Manquillo, who has had loan spells at both Liverpool and Marseille during his time with Los Colchoneros, will have the option to make a permanent move to the Stadium Of Light if Sunderland wish to exercise that option at the end of the season, according to the Irish Independent.
Sunderland assistant manager Paul Bracewell confirmed that Manquillo had arrived at the club for his medical, revealing to Talksport that ‘[Manquillo] is obviously having his medical at the moment. He came in this afternoon and he’s having his medical as we speak’.
The 22-year-old right-back signed a two-year loan deal with Liverpool back in August 2014 but made just ten appearances for the Reds in a season that saw the Madrid native split time with England international Glen Johnson.
Manquillo becomes Moyes’ sixth signing of the summer after previously acquiring Manchester United trio Adnan Januzaj, Paddy McNair and Donald Love as well as Everton veteran Steven Pienaar and former Chelsea midfielder Papy Djilobodji.
