Summer Additions Will Get The Best Out Of Olivier Giroud

With the seemingly imminent signing of Leicester City talisman Jamie Vardy, the speculation regarding Henrikh Mkhitaryan being keen on a move to Arsenal and rumours implying that Wenger may sign another forward, Olivier Giroud may actually thrive from these acquisitions.

Contrary to the belief that the Frenchman will suffer from Arsenal’s activeness in the summer transfer window, Giroud will possibly benefit largely from competition upfront.

For periods of time over the last two seasons when Theo Walcott had successful periods as a striker, Olivier Giroud was forced to perform well to stay in contention to be included in the starting eleven.

During the concluding two months of last season, Giroud endured waves of criticism from many fans as he dipped out of form in front of goal and wasted many opportunities.

Wenger’s hands were tied, partially down to his own inability to sign another striker in previous transfer windows, as he had no prolific strikers to look to in his 2015/16 squad to replace the former Montpellier player – he was then forced to stick with Olivier Giroud upfront.

However, now with the imminent reinforcements in attack, the Frenchman will now be forced again to perform to remain in contention.

Vardy’s style of pace and aggression completely contrasts with Giroud’s style of hold-up play and power in the air.

Therefore, the Vardy signing is massive for Arsenal. It gives them an array of options upfront. Arsenal’s approach to games last year were regarded as too predictable as sides sat deep and counter-attacked as they knew Arsenal were limited with Giroud’s pace. Vardy will now give Arsenal more options in terms of their approach as Vardy and Giroud are completely different.

If Vardy’s style of play is not working, then Oliver Giroud can replace him and alter Arsenal’s approach to the game, as Giroud gives them different options.

The acquisition of Vardy allows the possibility of playing two upfront as Giroud and Vardy complement each other in terms of their contrasting footballing styles as they represent the “big guy little guy” approach where Giroud hold-ups the play and Vardy provides the option of running-in-behind.

Jamie Vardy signing for Arsenal will indefinitely help Arsenal in their pursuit of the premier league title as his finishing has proven to be clinical. However, Giroud will also benefit largely from Jamie Vardy signing for Arsenal as it will provide him with competition.
