Barcelona forward Luis Suarez was in no mood to sympathise with match officials after they missed a clear goal against Valencia at the weekend.
Ernesto Valverde’s league leaders maintained their unbeaten run in La Liga this season with a 1-1 draw at the Mestalla, but will feel that they were robbed of all three points after an incident in the first half.
On the half-hour mark, a shot from Lionel Messi was horribly fumbled by Valencia keeper Neto, only for the Brazilian to fumble the ball behind him. Although the referee thought that the former Juventus man had done enough to prevent the goal, replays showed that it had clearly crossed the line.
Barca players were determined to remonstrate with the referee after the decison, with referee Iglesias Villanueva refusing to discuss the matter with either Messi, Sergio Busquets or Andres Iniesta.
Suarez, seeing how incensed his teammates were with the decision, attempted to talk to Villanueva only to be given the same reaction – to which he responded with:
“I did, I’m telling you I saw it. You shat yourself! You fucking midget!”

Spanish daily AS was on hand to explain that although what he said in was not an exact translation of the above, the connotations are similar:
[In Spanish: “Eres un cagón. Enano de mierda”. Neither insult has a standard translation. ‘Cagón’ is sometimes merely interpreted as ‘bottler’ but with its clear reference to excrement is usually felt to be somewhat more insulting, while ‘enano de mierda’ could also be rendered as ‘you fucking short-arse’, ‘short-arsed twat’ or similar.]
Messi attempted a number of times more to contest the issue with the referee, but was waved away on each occasion The draw leaves Barcelona four points clear of Valencia after 13 rounds of fixtures.
