Steven Gerrard Could Be In Line For An Early Return To Liverpool [Report]

A torrid week for Liverpool football club may end on an unexpected positive note if reports emanating from LA are to be believed.

The Reds’ season, which up until last week had promised so much, has ultimately ended as a disappointing one. An 8th place finish in the league and, following their loss to Sevilla on Wednesday, no silverware or Champions League football next season means that while Jurgen Klopp’s impact has been spectacularly popular and galvanizing, plenty of work remains to be done.

Reports suggest that the Liverpool will go about completing this work with Steven Gerrard back among their ranks, in a coaching capacity.

The Merseyside legend and his wife are reportedly feeling homesick in LA and yearning for a return to Anfield. It is widely believed that Gerrard has been offered a coaching role at Liverpool and so a return looks the most likely course of action.

Rumours suggest that the 35 year old could return within months, perhaps as early as August. No doubt the thought of a Liverpool team marshalled by Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard is a very appealing one to the Kop faithful.

Such optimism should be guarded however, as ‘Stevie G’ has recently made attempts to squash such rumours. He’s quoted as saying

‘I’m happy, settled and I’m really looking forward to representing the Galaxy through the end of the season…’

and insisting that despite being somewhat envious of his former teammates playing in the Europa League final, that

‘doesn’t mean I don’t want to be where I am now’.

However, despite such statements, one can’t help but think that a return to Anfield would be a hard offer to turn down for Liverpool’s famous son.
