Despite an explosive start to life at Manchester United, a number of dreadful performances have led to demands for Zlatan Ibrahimovic be dropped in favour of Marcus Rashford.
The sluggish Swede has played every single minute in the Premier League this season despite some terrible showings. These stats, comparing him to the League’s finest, are pretty damning, unsurprisingly.
Even when putting his numbers up against some of the division’s less accomplished finishers, all of which have played less football than him, it doesn’t look much brighter for the former PSG man.
Ahmed Musa has scored two goals from nine shots. Ibrahimovic has bagged four from fifty-seven.
Just let that sink in.
And yet, it’s hard to envisage him being removed from the team for Sunday’s trip to Swansea. His “special relationship” with Ibra is holding the Reds back. Another goalless display in Wales and more dropped points would turn this bad run of form into a full-blown crisis.
Bottom of the table Sunderland have a more efficient striker spearheading the team. If stats truly never lie then the Special One has no choice but to drop his number nine with Rashford, sixteen years his junior, waiting in the literal wings.
