With persistent rumours linking Harry Kane with a summer move to Real Madrid, the Spurs striker has made some interesting comments regarding Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona.
Although Harry Kane may end up spending the entirety of his career with Tottenham Hotspurs, there is now no avoiding the fact that the English striker’s talent will cause the biggest clubs in the world to knock on his door.
Over the past two years, Kane has been persistently linked with moves to Manchester United and Real Madrid but now, for the first time, a potential move to Real Madrid seems destined to become a full-fledged transfer saga.
Speaking about Kane’s future last week, Mauricio Pochettino stated that, although he was determined to keep the England international at Spurs, he would not force the 24-year-old to remain against his will.
‘Harry is so special,’ said the Argentinean. ‘Because he loves Tottenham and he has always been at Tottenham. But we need to be clever how we manage him. The player needs to choose to stay here, you cannot force the player to stay here.’
Speaking about the record-breaking deal that saw Philippe Coutinho making the move from Liverpool to Barcelona, Kane seemed to echo his manager’s sentiments in a manner that has worried many Spurs fans with the striker posing the somewhat pointed question; ‘if a player wants to go then why would you stop him?’
“It’s a matter of opinion,” the 24-year-old said speaking to the Independent. “I think if a player wants to go then why would you stop him? He’s not going to be in the club, he’s not going to play every game, he’s not going to put his heart on the line.”
“From the Coutinho point of view I think he’s been very professional in the six months he has played this year and, look, Liverpool have got a good offer from Barca and accepted it so I wouldn’t say they’re powerless but I can see why if a player wants to go you would let him go.”

Although there does seem to be a less than subtle hint in Kane’s comments, the Spurs forward has never openly stated anything other than his ambition to succeed at his current club.
However, with Los Blancos reportedly in the hunt, a recent poll also revealed that the 24-year-old is currently the number one choice of Real Madrid fans for what will likely be a huge summer for recruitment given their shocking form in La Liga this season.
