Sports Doc Of The Week – Loughinisland: Ceasefire Massacre (Football)

This week’s sports documentary looks at the Loughinisland Massacre, in which a number of innocent Irish fans were murdered while watching the 1994 World Cup.

A short, yet powerful documentary regarding the tragic events on June 18th, 1994 during the World Cup game between Ireland and Italy. While the Boys in Green put on arguably the best display by an Irish team ever in a World Cup game, winning 1-0 with a Ray Houghton strike early on in the game, a very different story was occurring 24 miles South of Belfast in the little village of Loughinisland.

The Irish people and team became mourners soon after the final whistle when the tragic news revealed that six innocent Irish supporters were shot and fatally wounded in a pub in the little village south of Belfast.

This occurred towards the end of the Troubles, but was a dark day in Irish history.
