Wolfsburg Sporting Director Reveals Arsenal Could Launch Massive Bid For Julian Draxler

Arsenal v Southampton - Premier League

Wenger is never one to give up interest in a player.

This week, rumours of a move for Gonzalo Higuain have been gathering pace, giving Arsenal fans flashbacks of the summer of 2013. Alvaro Morata, another name linked with the Gunners in the last few weeks, was also a transfer target a year ago.

And today, reports are suggesting Wenger could be considering reigniting interest for another player. This time it’s Julian Draxler.

Having been following the player three years ago, and making a bid in January 2014, Wenger is clearly an avid follower of the German, who had an impressive tournament at Euro 2016.

And although his name has already been thrown around this transfer window in terms of a move to Arsenal, this is the first time it has been done with any real conviction.

That is because Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has today admitted that the Bundesliga club may be forced to sell their star player.

“Clearly we have a lot to talk about. There were a few issues that have emerged in the past”, Allofs said.

One of the issues could be Wolfsburg’s failure to make the Champions League next season. This, coupled with Draxler’s intense desire to play in Europe’s greatest competition, could pave the way to the exit door.

The German’s asking price of £55m could become a stumbling block, but Wenger will be doing everything he can to make the move happen. Draxler’s versatility could be vital to Arsenal’s title hopes next year; he can play out wide or just behind the striker.

In fact, it is this versatility that has convinced Wenger he can convert the German to a striker, something Arsenal are desperate for having missed out on Jamie Vardy.

Moreover, there has been no talk of Wolfsburg demanding a swap deal, like Napoli have. Wenger will no doubt be keen to keep Olivier Giroud; maybe Draxler is the route to take in order for that to happen.
