So, Who Is Arsenal Target, Grzegorz Krychowiak Anyway?

The rumour mill has exploded in earnest with reports linking Grzegorz Krychowiak to an Arsenal move, but who is he?

The basics

Grzegorz Krychowiak is a Polish midfielder deployed in a defensive-midfield role for Sevilla. He’s only been with the Spanish club for one year, after plying his largely with Reims and Nantes in France’s Ligue 1.

He’s 25, with plenty of good years ahead of him and an imposing figure standing at 6’1.

Where’s all this Arsenal hullabaloo coming from?

In June, Grzegorz Krychowiak stirred the hornets nest somewhat when he changed his agent/representatives. His new agents would the Stellar Group. Why does this matter? Well they already have on-loan Arsenal keeper  Wojciech Szczesny as well as a host of Premier League players on their books, plus Gareth Bale too. Being based in England, they’re the ideal choice for any player angling for a move to the Premier League.

Panic buying is not smart, but if the West Ham defeat showed anything it’s a lack of a combative replacement for Coquelin if the Frenchman is off-form or injured. And no, Flamini or Arteta are not the answer.

Importantly, Krychowiak could be somewhat of a bargain. He reportedly has a release clause of £22m. Making him a much cheaper option than Schneiderlin, Kondogbia or any of the other midfielders the club was linked with.

So, is he any good though?

The big question. He’s a proper DM that much is guaranteed. The majority of his touches last year came from literally the quadrant right behind the centre circle in his own half. A tru aerial threat, he has a success rate of 73% when it comes to aerial duels.

He’s not known as a particularly stand out passer, though that’s not something Arsenal are lacking. He played last night against Barcelona and clearly has a bit of pace about him.

As always, the ever industrious Scout Nation have a compilation of the Pole’s début season that is well worth a watch.

How likely is it this deal will happen?

The fact that he’s now taking on an English based agent does suggest a move could be on. It’s being reported several clubs in the Premiership, La Liga and the Bundesliga have all shown an interest though.

Some rumours have darted round the Twittersphere that an Arsenal delegation were in attendance at last night’s match to run the rule one more time over the midfielder.

One huge piece of news a lot of talk has been centred on is this tweet.

The way this is being spun, it suggests Krychowiak has been commenting on rumours recently. That simply isn’t true for now. This was as an interview from much earlier in the summer while on international duty with Poland. At these stage Krychowiak was speaking purely in hypotheticals, so hold your horses folks.

As always, it ain’t official till their in London Colney holding the jersey, but one can’t help but think too many stars are aligning on this one for their not to be some interest from the Arsenal.
