So It Turns Out Arsenal Were Never Interested In Signing Barcelona Player

Ah the tranfer window, the land of false dawns. Over the last few days many an Arsenal fan became aware of Sergi Samper before quickly declaring he could be the new Busquets and they couldn’t wait for him to sign. 

And then it turned out that the whole story had been completely created by Sergi Samper’s actual dad. Heavy reports this week linked Samper with a €12m (the cost of his buyout clause) move to Arsenal. Catalan Newspaper Mundo Deportivo broke the story and that’s usually a good sign. But as Sportwitness point out, we should all have been paying more attention.

The Catalan newspaper (Mundo Deporttivo) have a long standing fury toward Arsenal for taking La Masia products and snatching the best talent away, being outright abusive at times, and that their article was altogether civil gave the impression they didn’t truly believe Arsenal were fighting to sign the player.

As it turns out, they were completely right. Rather than Arsenal looking to poach another talent from Barcelona, the opposite was happening.

Sergi Samper and his family were the ones heavily pushing for the move. However it looks like Wenger seems to have made his mind up.
