Sky Sports Report Arsenal And Tottenham Are Battling To Sign Devastating Dutch Winger

Liverpool

According to Sky Sports and the Express, Arsenal have found a replacement for Theo Walcott in the form of Dutch winger Quincy Promes.

However, the Gunners chase of the Spartak Moscow star is set to go down to the wire in a heated battle with bitter rivals Tottenham for the 24-year-old’s signature. Having only joined the Russian giants from FC Twente in 2014 for £11m, Promes has set the Russian league alight.

Promes has had a spectacular 2015/16 campaign, scoring 18 goals in 30 appearances, with his overall record standing at 31 goals from 58 games- not bad for a 5ft 9in winger.

Tottenham’s interest has complicated matters for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has not been keen to become involved in a bidding war for a player with any club.

Promes looks to be available this summer, having declined the opportunity to extend his contract with Spartak, so Wenger will want to act quickly to add to his summer purchases.

Wenger said, “We’ve already bought one player – Granit Xhaka – from Monchengladbach, because we’ve lost three players. We’ve lost [Mikel] Arteta, we’ve lost [Tomas] Rosicky and [Mathieu] Flamini.

So we’ve bought one midfielder and we’re still in the market to buy one or two more players. But it is not easy. It is not just buying. We also have to keep a good balance. If you buy too many players you destabilise your team. So three is the maximum.”

A move to the Emirates would certainly be appealing for Promes, who will want to feature more prominently for the Netherlands as well as having the desire to play in one of the biggest leagues in the world. With Tottenham’s high finish last season however, the winger could be tempted to link up with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen. Let the bidding war begin…
